Dennis was an avid golfer and member of the Avalon Mens Golf Association. He was a retired auditor from the State of Arizona Department of Insurance. Dennis was a veteran of the U. S. Army. He was recently preceded in death by his father, Harry Hottinger. Baptist faith. He was a dairy farmer for many years. He worked at K_25,
Y_12 and X_10 plants. He retired from Union Carbide after 30 years
service. He was a past Master of the Union Lodge No. 38 F. & A.m. He
was a York Rite and a Scottish Rite Mason and was a member of the Kerbela
Temple. Preceded in death by grandparents, Zollie and Delia Christian;
parents, Frank and Nettie Christian Meade; and aunt, Lydia Chester

& AM in Lenoir City. He was retired from Union Carbide, K-25 Plant

was preceded in death by his first wife, Rowena Lee Lane. He is survived

| Shiflett, Cornelia Nash
(Jack) Campbell (Granny) age 97, passed away peacefully into Heaven in
her sleep at the home she shared with her loving family, son and
daughter-in-law, George and Julia Bradley Shiflett. Born in Hawkins
County, November 8, 1904, the daughter of Judge George H. Campbell and
Cornelia Starnes, she was a schoolteacher. She married Pelham Manning
Shiflett of Harriman, an Engineer with whom she traveled the Southeast as
he built first roads and then dams for the Army Corp of Engineers then
T.V.A. They retired to Lenoir City after the building of Fort Loudon Dam.
Jack was an active and devoted member of Trinity United Methodist Church
where she belonged to The Agape and Third Thursday groups. She was
previously a member of The Lenoir City Christian Women’s and the The
Clionian Clubs. She remained an avid member of her Monday Bridge group and
continued to visit Cades Cove weekly until almost the end of her life. She
was a witness to God’s love and the beauty of a life of absolute Faith
to all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents, her
husband, sisters, Virginia Henry and Edith McDonald; brother, Robert
Campbell. She leaves to celebrate her life in addition to her son and
daughter-in-law; granddaughters and husbands, Connie and John Wallace, and
Lis and Budde Wolfe; grandsons and wives, David and Rebecca Parker
Shiflett, and Dean and Sarah Riggs Shiflett; nieces, Bilo Spencer Nelson,

age 72 of Knoxville, formerly of Memphis and Union City, passed away Thursday evening, January 17, 2001 at her home. Betty was a member of West Park Baptist Church in Knoxville. She was a former employee of Williams Equipment in Memphis for many years, and Baptist Memorial Hospital in Union City, TN. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Frederick Russell and Rosalea Russell. (Rice) age 69 of Lenoir City passed away Friday, January 18, 2002 at
her home. She was retired from Metro Airport APCOA Parking in Detroit,
Michigan. Virginia was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. A former
employee of Yale and Towne. She was preceded in death by parents, Clarence
and Lois Watson Rice; brothers, W. A. (Dub) Rice and Charles Rice.
Survived by daughter, Angela Stemeye of Lenoir City; sons, Lee Stemeye and
wife Marsha of Detroit, MI, Jerry Stemeye and wife Karen of Knoxville and
Ricky Stemeye and wife Kelly of Lenoir City; 8 grandchildren; 4 great
grandchildren; brother, Claude Rice and wife Bobbie of Madisonville;
sister, Wanda Rice Parris and husband Fred of Madisonville; several nieces
and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:45 p.m. Sunday
with funeral services to follow at 8 p.m. in the Click Funeral Home

| Arrowood, Lillie Prince
age 89 of Lenoir City passed away Saturday, January 19, 2002 at the
NHC Healthcare in Farragut. She was a nurse during World War II at Oak
Ridge Hospital. Lillie was a member of the Church of God Organization for
70 years and Sixth Avenue Church of God for 32 years where she was a
member of the Choir and Missions Sunday School Class. She was a greeter at
Wal-Mart in Lenoir City. Preceded in death by husband, W. M. Arrowood;
children, C. W. Arrowood and Mary Arbogast Smith. Survived by daughter,
Carroll Underwood; grandchildren, Gene Markland, Chris Markland, Tonya
Melton, Terry King, Tammy Giles, Kim Webb, Tracy King, Carmen Shoemaker
and Travis King; 17 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:45 p.m. Monday at the Sixth
Avenue Church of God with funeral services to follow at 8 p.m. Rev. Ernie

| McCurry, Lyda Jane of Lenoir City passed away Tuesday, January 22, 2002 at Ft. Sanders Parkwest Medical Center. Lyda was an active member of Central United Methodist Church of Lenoir City; a member of GFWC Coytee Club, and was one of the founders of the Lenoir City Arts and Crafts Festival with the Suburbia Club. Lyda was retired from Oak Ridge operations, had been a feature writer for the News-Herald and secretary in the Physical Education Department at UT Knoxville. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Lydia Eblen Manis; her children Anne Elizabeth and Bobby; brothers Claude, Hugh, and Glen Manis. Survivors: husband, Bob, son and daughter-in-law, John and Lisa McCurry and granddaughter, Rachel of Birmingham; brother and special sister-in-law, Curtis and Gladys Manis of Lenoir City; sisters, Hazel Walker of Lenoir City and Edith Madgett of Knoxville; and special friend Ann Monger Vondy of Lenoir City. Arthur was a retired owner of A & A Casale Meat By-Products Co. in Utica, NY. He was an avid participant in Ft. Sanders Fitness Center in Farragut. | Hooper, Marion Loran "Ruggy" age 26 of Gary, Indiana formerly of Sweetwater, Tn. passed away suddenly early Friday morning, January 25, 2002 at his home. He was employed with Mayflower Movers. Ruggy was preceded in death by his father, Randell A. Hooper Sr and his grandparents, Tony and Ella Mae Eudakis. | Watts, Denver Stephenson
- of Lenoir City, passed away Saturday, January 26,2002 at the Blount Memorial Hospital. He was born and raised in Loudon County. Denver graduated with honors from Loudon High School in 1948. He joined the Navy out of high school and served his country for 22 years and retired in 1970 as Senior Chief Petty Officer. His military career earned him three Good Conduct Medals, China Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and National Defense Medal. Denver was stationed in many countries including: The Phillipines, Guam and Japan where he taught English to Japanese Officers. He spent time aboard the USS Orca, USS Grand Canyon and USS Boxer. He was assigned to the Naval School of Justice in both California and Rhode Island where he served as Personnel Clerk. He later attended the University of Tennessee where he became an Honor Student. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Guam. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver and Roxie Jenkins Watts. He is survived by his wife, Clarius L. Watts; sons, Denver S. Watts Jr. and Jeff Watts both of Charleston, S.C.; step-children, Pam Wilkerson Young and Keith Wilkerson both of Lenoir City; grandson, Jeff Watts Jr. of Charlotte, N.C.; step grandchildren whom he loved as his own, Chasey Harris Hachmann and husband, Dennis, Gabriel Harris (his special son) and wife Jenny all of Lenoir City; great grandchildren: Bailey Hachmann, Shelbi, Kalie and Coby Harris all of Lenoir City; brother, Ted Watts and wife, Sue of Loudon; sister, Jean Cavett of Loudon; sister-in-law, Delores L. Horion, Laurier Raymond ( Larry )-
age 72 of the Tellico Village Community, Loudon, formerly of Manchester, N.H., passed away Saturday morning, January 26, 2002 at the Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville. Larry was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church. After his retirement as Vice-President from Prudential Insurance Co, Larry became very active within the Tellico Village Community helping establish the Neighborhood Watch Program and 911 Systems in Loudon Co. He served as a volunteer with the American Red Cross and was an Arbitrator with the Better Business Bureau. Larry was an avid golfer and he adored his surviving wife of 52 years, Beatrice Horion. He is also survived by his children: Susan Ross and husband, Dean of Marietta, Ga., Dennis Horion of Buford, Ga., and Diane Lee and husband, Michael of Knoxville; grandchildren, Ian and Kyle Ross and Taylor Lee; brothers, Gus, Al and Paul Horion; sisters, Angel Levesque, Lorriane St.Onge, Claire Remillard, Pauline Richardson, and Andrienne Horion; many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, February 2 at the Tellico Village Community Church with Father John Dowling officiating.
