Westmoreland, H. E., Jr. age 73 of Lenoir City passed away Wednesday, December 5, 2001 at the Park West Medical Center. He was an Elder of the Lenoir City Church of Christ for 30 years. He served in Okinawa during the Korean War. Mr. Westmoreland retired from Viskase in Loudon after 35 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, H. E. and Inez Westmoreland Sr. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Virginia Partin Westmoreland; daughters, Joy Westmoreland, Hope Fine and husband, Greg of Lenoir City, Faith Graves and husband, John of Soddy-Daisy; granddaughters, Jessica Fine, Casey and Corey Graves; also Lisa Moser Arp and Jarrod L. Simpson, Roy L. - age 78, of Farragut, passed away Friday evening, December 7, 2001 at the Etowah Health Care Center. Roy was a member of Concord United Methodist Church. He was retired from ORNL working in the Instrumentation and Control Division for 35 years. Roy served in the United States Navy during WWII aboard the USS Threat in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters. He was a charter member of the Farragut Ruitan Club. Henn, Jan age 44 of Lenoir City, formerly of Farragut and Rogersville, passed away Wednesday evening December 12, 2001 at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville. Jan was a devoted Christian wife and mother and a member of Two Rivers Church in Farragut. She was a graduate of Rogersville High School. She attended Carson Newman College and East Tennessee State University. Jan graduated from the University of Tennessee Center for the Health Sciences, School of Pharmacy. After returning to Knoxville in 1992, she was a pharmacist for Ft. Sanders Regional Medical Center, Resource Pharmacy, and more recently at Shannondale Nursing Home. She did volunteer work at the V O A homeless shelter in Knoxville. She enjoyed flower gardening and acrylic and water color painting. Gunnels, Grant C. age 81 of Lenoir City passed away Thursday evening, December 13, 2001 at the Ft. Sanders Loudon Medical Center. Grant was a member of First Baptist Church in Lenoir City. He was a member of Avery Masonic Lodge #593 F & AM, where he recently received his 50 year pin. Grant was a carpenter by trade. He worked for J. A. Jones Construction and later retired from Union Carbide in Loudon in 1979. Grant was preceded in death by parents, Herbert and Eva Gunnels; seven brother and sisters. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church. Beulah was a charter member of the Pilot Club of Lenoir City where she served as President two times. She was retired from Lenoir Car Works. She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Clayton Luttrell; parents, James Garfield and Mary Albertson Peters; sisters, Evelyn Luper, Jessie Burns and Macie Stoner; brother, Denton Peters; several nieces and nephews. Kirkland, James Howard (Joe) age 83 of Lenoir City passed away Friday, December 21, 2001 at the Park West Medical Center. He served in the Army during W. W. II. Howard was retired from Robert Shaw Controls where he was a shop foreman. He was a member of Baptist Faith. Preceded in death by his father, Rufe M. Kirkland; mother, Dora Rasar Kirkland; sisters, Beulah Rather and Rilda Kirkland; brothers, Holly and Luke Kirkland; First wife, Anna Faye Collins Kirkland; and son, Gregory Howard Kirkland. Rogers, Dorthy Ledford (Dot) - age 61 of Lenoir City, passed away Sunday morning, December 23, 2001 at her home. Dot was a member of Gospel Light Baptist Church where she loved to sing in the church quartet and served as church pianist for over 25 years. She was a former nursing supervisor at Eastern State Hospital in Knoxville. Dot was preceded in death by an infant daughter; her grandaughter, Amanda Blake Nelson; father, Clyde (Buck) Ledford; brother, Bud Ledford; grandmother, Carrie Chastain. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Charles (Buddy) Rogers; daughter, Connie Nelson and husband, Randall; grandson, Tanner Nelson; mother, Eula Ledford; sister Geneva Kelley and husband, Rev. Johnson, Charles Raymond- age 66 of Greenback, TN, formerly of Orange Beach, AL, passed away Saturday, December 22, 2001. Charles was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Farragut, TN. He was a member of the Third Order of St. Francis, the Knights of Columbus and the Serra Club of Knoxville. Charles was a tireless volunteer for the Catholic Social Services of Robertsdale, AL and Harriman, TN. He retired after 33 years with Fisher Body Division of General Motors. Charles served in the United States Navy. He is survived by his wife Nancy Johnson; daughters, Leslie Cochran and husband John of Shelbyville, TN and Andrea Johnson of Centerville, TN; son, Christopher Johnson and wife Kristie of Pensacola, FL; grandchildren: Jessica, Charles, Rebekah, David, Kristen and Alexandra; great grandchildren, Trey and Montana; brothers: Henry, Robert and William Johnson all of Michigan, Lawrence Johnson of Indiana; numerous nieces and nephews, and the entire population of Hawesville, KY. Lentz, David G. age 55 of Loudon formerly of Carbondale, PA passed away Monday, December 24, 2001 at the Park West Medical Center. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving with the U. S. Army as Sergeant E5. Sowards, Alan Douglas (Doug) age 47 of Knoxville, went to be with his Lord on Thursday December 28, 2001, at Duke Medical Center in Durham, NC. Doug was a graduate of Lenoir City High School Class of 1972 and a graduate of the University of Tennessee. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Concord and was a leader in the church youth activities. He was an employee of TVA, working out of the Knoxville office. Doug was preceded in death by his mother, Armelia (Mib) Burnett Sowards. Whitaker, Mozelle Renshaw age 86 of Lenoir City passed away Sunday, December 30, 2001 at the Baptist Health Care in Lenoir City. Born in Shannon, Mississippi, Mrs. Whitaker attended high school and graduated from Peabody College in Nashville, Tennessee. She was a leader in Methodist Women’s organizations, a teacher in public school, day care and in Christian education. In recent years, she lived in Lenoir City and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She was a founding member of the Loudon Co. Beautification Board and formerly active with other civic groups. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Whitaker. She is survived by daughter, Anna Smith and her husband, Jake of Newport, R.I.; son, Bill Whitaker and his wife, Jane of Lenoir City; grandchildren, Jeff Smith of Boston, MA, Heather Adams of Boston, MA, Laura Matzek of Charleston, S.C., and David Whitaker of Lenoir City; and niece, Betty Barber of Clinton, MS.
