Julian, Richard E., age 80 of Loudon, passed away Thursday, January 6, 2000 at the Park West Medical Center. Richard was a member of The Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Roane Co. He worked as a foreman and superintendant at many numerous manufacturing plants and retired from Marlock Corporation in Maynardville, Tn. He was preceded in death by six sisters and two brothers. Marius, Dr. Richard C., age 66 of Belmont Mass., formerly of Lenoir City, died at his home November 5, 1999 after a lengthy illness with pancreatic cancer. Richard was a graduate of Lenoir City High School, the University of Tennesse and the Southern Baptist Seminary of Louisville Ky. and attended the University of Strasbourg in 1956 on a Rotary fellowship. He received his Doctor of Philosophy degree from Yale University. As a novelist, Richard set his work in his native East Tennessee. "After the War" and "The Coming of Rain" formed two parts of a trilogy completed by his work, which he finished three weeks before his death. Another novel, "Bound for the Promised Land" began in the same setting and moved westward. His interest in 19th century issues informed his editing of "The Columbia Book of Civil War Poetry". As a historian of 16th century religious thought, Richard wrote biographies of Martin Luther and Thomas More. He also edited three volumes of the Yale edition of the "Complete Works of St. Thomas More". As an educator, Richard shaped the Expository Writing program at Harvard for 16 years. This led to two aids to writing: "A Writers Companion" and "A Short Guide to Writing About History". After stepping down as director of Expository Writing, he taught courses in Twain and Faulkner as a senior lecturer in the English Department. Richard was born July 29, 1933 at Dixie Lee Junction to Henri and Mary Eunice Henck Marius. Survivors: wife, Lanier Smythe. Sons, Richard, Fred and John Marius. 2 Grandchildren. Cook, Rev. William Kenneth (Bill) (Lt. Col. U.S. Army. Retired) age 78 of the Tellico Village Community Loudon , formerly of Hendersonville, passed away Saturday afternoon January 15, 2000 at his home. Bill was a 24 year veteran of the Army and a Pearl Harbor survivor. He was a retired Baptist minister with the Castallian Springs Baptist Church, New Hope Baptist Church and the First Baptist Church of Westmoreland. Bill also retired from the State of Tennessee with the Employment Security Department. McClaskey, Jennie Pecarich Harrison, age 84 of the Tellico Village Loudon Tennessee, formerly of Gallup New Mexico and Ogden Utah, passed away Wednesday January 19, 2000 in Loudon. Jennie was of the Catholic faith. She was born May 17, 1915 in Gallup New Mexico to Frank and Barbara Ferkovic Pecarich. Jennie graduated from high school at the age of 16 and learned to speak 7 languages. She lived in France, Libya and Germany and traveled extensively. She was known for her sense of humor and love of people. After the death of her second husband, she moved to Utah and retired from the U.S. Government as a stenographer. Jennie moved to Tennessee 2 and a half years ago to be near her family. She was preceded in death by her Parents; Daughter, Betty Marie Harrison. Hernandez, Dolores Sanchez, age 60 of Farragut Tennessee, formerly of Hobbs New Mexico, passed away Sunday morning January 23, 2000 at the St. Mary’s Hospice Center in Knoxville. Dolores was born January 29, 1939 in Carlsbad New Mexico to Bonificio and Marcelena Navarette Sanchez. After raising five children she earned a degree in Elementary Education from Eastern New Mexico University and taught school in the Hobbs New Mexico Municipal Schools until her retirement in June of 1998. She was a member of the Jefferson Street Church of Christ in Hobbs New Mexico. After her retirement Dolores moved to Farragut, where she was a member of Farragut Church of Christ. Dolores was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Juan and Daniel Sanchez. Survivors: Children and spouses, Marty and Janet Hernandez of Kaukauna Wisconsin, Elia and Tom Key of Farragut Tn., Elisha and Harry Stewart of Mendon Mass.,Cristina and Ken Keller, Cindy and Dan Heim all of Lewisville Texas. 16 Grandchildren. Shopene, George Michael, age 71 of Knoxville passed away Suddenly Tuesday January 25, 2000. George was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving with the Army. He was a photographer and an avid outdoorsman. He was reared by his aunts, Regina Yaley and Leona Shoemaker, who proceeded him in death. George is survived by his son, Michael Shopene, of Knoxville. Goodwin, Mary Lynn of Lenoir City Tennessee passed away Sunday afternoon January 30, 2000 in Columbia City Indiana. Mary Lynn was the mother of Betsy Gates of Columbia City and the wife of the late M.G. Goodwin of Lenoir City. She was born May 30, 1910 in Lenoir City to Henry Calhoun Foster and Mattie Dyer Foster. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Lenoir City and a member of the Sadie Porter Sunday School Class. Mary Lynn was a member of the D. A. Evans, Hernando Cortez (H.C.) age 83 of Farragut (formerly a resident of Lenoir City, Tn.,passed away at his home on January 31, 2000, after a long illness. He was born and lived in Lenoir City most of his life.  He along with his father owned Evans Bros. Grocery on Broadway.  He later worked as a dispatcher for Colonial Freight Systems, Inc. in Knoxville.  He is a World War II veteran and was awarded a Purple Heart after being wounded in Germany.  He was an elder in the Lenoir City Church of Christ.  He was preceded in death by his parents Charles Robert Evans, Sr., and Fannie Hambright Evans, brother Charles Robert Evans, Jr., son-in-law M.R. (Buddy) Clayton, and a great grandson, Seth Adam Gossage.  He is survived by his loving wife of almost 60 years, Agnes Hardeman Evans, four daughters and their respective spouses- Rose Evelyn Clayton of Farragut ( with whom they made their home ), Sarah Elizabeth McNabb and husband Bill of New Carlisle, Ohio, Marjorie Ellen Gossage and husband Lee of Farragut, and Katherine Emily Wawrzyniak and Ron of Orlando, Florida.  Grandchildren Reed and Angie Clayton of Smyrna, GA, Gaylon and Becky Clayton of Lenoir City, Dana and Ann Clayton of Conway, AR, Beryl and Tracie McNabb, Billy and Pam McNabb, Suzanne and Ralph Weaver, Beth McNabb, Theresa and Ronnie Fackler all of New Carlisle, OH, Allen and Tresia Gossage of Farragut.  Scott and Tammy Harness of Kodak, TN, also survived by twenty-two great-grandchildren.  He is survived by brothers Frank Evans and Lois of Durham, NC, James Evans and Gwendolyn, and sister-in-law, Mary Nell Evans all of Lenoir City, TN.  Several nieces and nephews.  The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Lenoir City Church of Christ, new Highway 95 ( Hwy 321 ) at Simpson Road.  Service will follow at the church at 8:00 p.m. with Kent Bailey and Albert Griffen officiating.  His grandsons will be pallbearers.  The family will meet at Lakeview Cemetery on Friday morning for a private burial.  In lieu of flowers, H.C. would have wished contributions be made to the Tennessee Children's Home, P.O. Scarbrough, Blanche Case age 91 of 501 West Second Avenue Lenoir City passed away early Wednesday morning February 2, 2000 at her home. Blanche was a member of Central United Methodist Church. She owned and operated Scarbrough Grocery with her husband, J. H. Scarbrough, until their retirement in 1972. Blanche was preceded in death by her Husband; Parents, Clarence E. Case and Mary Willard Case; Sister, Pauline Case. She will be greatly missed by her loving family which includes: Sons and daughters-in-law, James O. and Mary Jo Scarbrough, William D. and Mignon Scarbrough.
