Chisam, Fredrick Martin age 72 of Farragut, formerly of Athens, Tullahoma and McMinnville, passed away early Monday morning July 2, 2001 at U.T. Medical Center. Fred was a member of Cokesbury United Methodist Church. He was a draftsman with T. V. A. until his retirement. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the Army Signal Corp. Fred was a graduate of Tennessee Tech. He was an avid Tennessee sports fan. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, William and Maple Martin Chisam. sister, Wilma Chisam Ferguson. Milford, Robert Paul Sr. (Bob) age 80 of Knoxville, formerly of Oak Ridge, passed away Tuesday morning July 3, 2001 at Brakebill Nursing Home. Bob was born near Atlantic, Iowa in 1918 and received his B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering from Iowa State University in 1939. He was subsequently employed by the U.S. Engineer Department, the Maytag Co. and E. I. Dupont. Bob entered the U.S. Army in 1944 and was stationed at Oak Ridge as a member of the Special Engineer Detachment Corps of Engineers. Upon his discharge in 1946, he joined ORNL where he retired in 1981. Bob was a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, the American Chemical Society, the American Society for Metals and the Knoxville Men's Garden Club. He was an active member of Bearden United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the church choir, a lay leader and a volunteer in the FISH program. He was one of the organizers of Troop 52 Boy Scouts of America at West Hills School and served as an Asst. Scoutmaster. Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Louise Duthie Milford; daughter, Joanne S. Milford; parents, Paul K. Milford and Sarah W. Milford; brother, Donald E. Milford. Stamper, Thomas (T. W.) Age 73 of Vonore passed away Wednesday, July 4, 2001 at the Loudon Hospital. He was a veteran of U. S. Navy serving in the War. He was retired from his own business T. W. Stamper Excavating. T. W. was a member of the American Legion and VFW Post. Preceded in death by parents, Henry and Stella Stamper; brothers, Edgar, Ray and Hank Stamper; sister, Alma Mae Bowman. Frank A. Markli III passed peacefully away from this world on Monday evening July 2, 2001 at Park west Hospital in Knoxville in the presence of his son, Robert. It is sad to contemplate how many within the last decade of the noted and venerable gentlemen of what has come to be called "The Greatest Generation" are no longer with us as landmarks of that exceptional century.
Born on May 13, 1912 at Annapolis, Maryland, home of the Naval Academy, he dreamed of a life at sea. After receiving his degree in engineering he applied for a commission as an officer in the Navy but was denied for health reasons. An energetic and ingenious young man growing up during the Great Depression, he never lacked employment. With the outbreak of World War II, he sought to apply his considerable talents in the service of his country. He personally worked on every single one of a 1000 warplane order for the French Air Force at the Glen L. Martin Aircraft Co. in Baltimore, Maryland. 
Soon his abilities brought him to the attention of the Whitman, Recquardt and Smith engineering firm where he served on the Redstone Arsenal and Huntsville Ordinance plant projects in Alabama. Upon their completion, he was recruited to the top secret Manhattan Project in Oak Ridge, Tennessee where he was soon accredited full Scientist status and before long gained access to all the separate facilities so that he was among only a handfull who realized the mission of the program. After the War, he was presented a medal for "The Battle of Oak Ridge" by President Truman.
A quiet and unassuming man, like so many of his generation, he lived very simply and became a monument of the American virtues of thrift, temperance, industry, independence, self-sufficiency, decorum and honesty. He worked full-time at his profession until his retirement at age 82. He took nothing from anyone, and yet kindly and sympathetic, he could never refuse another's plea for help. He provided a home and support for his own parents in their old age as well as his only sister in her times of need. He never burdened any of his family in any way and many there are of his family and in this community who owe a debt of gratitude to him.
A member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church of Oak Ridge, he professed the Christian faith and espoused its virtues. He believed in prayer. He was a lifelong member of the I.E.E.E. He loved his country and the freedom it guarantees and showed that love by always casting an informed ballot and supporting a wide spectrum of conservative, patriotic, charitable and Christian causes.
He is survived by his three sons: Frank A. Markli IV of Wichita Falls, Tx., Robert N. (Bob) Markli of Farragut, Tn., and John C. Markli of Carrizozo, NM.; four grandchildren, Shelby, Caitlin, Robert II, and Ginger; a niece Patricia Cannon, and two great nieces, Corinne and Ashley Cannon of Long Beach, NY.

Parker, Lydia Irene, age 89, born August 29, 1911, expired peacefully in Knoxville, Thursday, July 5, 2001 at 9:45 a.m. She shared in ministry with her husband for thirty-six years in the states of Tennessee and Alabama. Lydia enjoyed doing many things with her hands and heart. Through the years she crocheted, knitted, quilted, tatted and most recently scrap booking. Additionally her hobbies included gardening (vegetables and flowers). Her greatest love was her church, family and playing the violin. She attended Sixth Avenue Church of God in Lenoir City. She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Reverend A. R. Parker in 1978; one brother, Troy Chambers and one sister, Johnnie McDaniel both of Chattanooga. She is survived by one brother, Earl Chambers of Breman, Ga ; four sisters, Estola Varnell of Chattanooga, Fannie Varnell of Columbus, Oh, Geneva Crane of Chattanooga, and Peggy Bonine of Chattanooga ; four daughters, Bonnie Mashburn of Cleveland, Bettie Hildreth of Knoxville, Joyce Coile and her husband, Wallace of Knoxville, Sandra Hildreth and her husband, Joe of Lenoir City; son, Paul Parker Sr. and wife, Virgie of Cleveland; 14 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren. Terese was active in Republican Party politics in West Chester County, and an alderman for the City Board of White Plains. She was a life-long member of the White Plains Woman's Club. Lynsky, Edmund Larkin  76, formerly of Kalamazoo, Michigan passed away on Sunday, July 8, 2001 in Knoxville, Tennessee. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts on February 18, 1925. He was a veteran of WW II and a 1951 graduate of Northeastern University. He was employed as an electrical engineer at Brown Company in Berlin, New Hampshire from 1951-1966. He retired from James River Corp. in Kalamazoo, Michigan and lived there until his recent illness.
Predeceased by his wife Dorothy J. Lynsky who passed away on June 16, 2001. He is survived by two daughters and their families: Joan and Larry Markel and children Evan and Andrea of Knoxville, Tennessee; Arlene and Randy Labnon and children Katherine and Christian of Gorham, New Hampshire, and one sister, Claire Charland of Dedham, Mass.

Jenkins, Rev. Carl age 53 of Lenoir City went home to be with his heavenly father, July 19,2001 at Parkwest Hospital. He was a member of Old Time Gospel Baptist Church. Former pastor of Rose of Sharon Church. He was assistant pastor of House of Prayer in Kingston. Carl had preached at several churches in the area. Riggle, Edna W. Waller (Boots) age 74 of Lenoir City passed away Friday morning July 20, 2001 at her home. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Lenoir City where she was a member of the Fidelis Sunday Class. Preceded in death by parents, Stover W. and Minnie Monger Waller; 8 brothers and sisters. Survived by husband of 52 years, B. T. Fitzgerald, Bob - age 68 - First in 911 Emergency - When Bob Fitzgerald and his boss decided to beat the competition to the punch and produce the first emergency phone system in February 1968, his wife said neither of the men knew the direction their work would take.
"It was just a competitive thing to beat the company that announced they were going to be first", his wife Reba, said. Mr. Fitzgerald, a resident of Winter Haven, FL for nearly five years, died Saturday, June 30, 2001 of heart failure. He was 69.
Mr. Fitzgerald and his boss, Bob Gallagher, were up against AT&T, which had announced plans to build the first 911 emergency phone system.
Mr. Fitzgerald's determination and success are things he was known for throughout the rest of his life.
He was born in Wauwatoso Township, Wis., on October 18, 1932. He worked as a state inside-plant manager at Alabama Telephone Co., a subsidiary of Continental Telephone, when he and Gallagher decided to make the first emergency phone system. He designed the circuitry for the first model. His family lived in Knoxville during the 70's and 80's, employed by Continental Telephone. His wife said the telephone business was a large part of his life, but family always came first.
When the emergency system took off, his wife said, he never credited himself, only saying he worked on the system. "He worked day and night to be the first in 911", she said. "He designed it, engineered it and went back into the room and worked with his men on it. That was before Alabama Telephone was union, therefore he was allowed to work along with his staff.
She said he liked the advances that were made in the system he built, but he did not like it when phone companies charged people for the service. "The first charge he saw was 50 cents, " she said. He used the system twice, she said, and was happy with the way things were going with it.
Mr. Fitzgerald was in management at Northern Telecom in Durham, NC, before retiring. Reba Fitzgerald said she remembered the time of his work on the emergency system as a "real history-making era of time".
The Navy veteran who served during the Korean War was a member of the Charles Baskerville Lodge No. 281 in Fayette, Ala., also a 32nd Degree Mason of the Scottish Rite Temple of Knoxville, TN.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Anita Fitzgerald, Nashville, TN., Annette Fitzgerald-Warner & son-in-law James Warner, Knoxville, TN, son Gary Fitzgerald, San Antonio, TX; brother James Fitzgerald, Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. Gendron, Roland Arthur age 93 of Knoxville passed away Monday morning July 23, 2001 at NHC Cavett Hill in Farragut. Roland was retired from T.V.A. with 37 years of service as a civil engineer. Price, James F. age 78 of Lenoir City passed away Monday morning July 23, 2001 at his home. Jim was a member of First Baptist Church in Lenoir City and Jim Scarbrough's Sunday School Class. A graduate of Lenoir City High School. He was a veteran of W. W. II serving in the Army Air Corp in CBI (China) and Burma, India and was awarded the DFC and Air Medals. Jim was a member of American Legion Post #120. He was retired from Union Carbide Y-12 in Oak Ridge with 30 years service. Jim served as a Loudon Co. Commissioner for 12 years. He was preceded in death by parents, George E. and Ethel Brown Price; brothers, Neville and George Jr. Price; sister, Ruth P. Watson. Survivors: wife of 54 years, Marjorie Hand Price; sons, Jim L. LaBo, Joseph Arthur - age 64 - of Tellico Village, Loudon, TN, formerly of Taylor, MI, passed away July 26, 2001 at his home. Joseph was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Lenoir City, TN. He was an usher and participated in various parish activities. Joseph had worked for Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, MI for 30 years. He was a member of the Tellico Tennis Association and worked with Loudon County Habitat for Humanity for five years and was on their board of directors for Habitat for the past two years. Wass, Gregory Keith (Greg) age 35 of Knoxville TN, born in Kansas City, MO, passed away suddenly Wednesday July 25, 2001 at his home. Greg was a graduate of the University of Richmond and the University of Tennessee with a Masters degree in communications. He had also been a student at the Parsons School of Design in New York City, and he had a keen interest in interior design. Greg was a wonderful son and friend. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Charles A. Harrison. Brehob, Mary C. Stone, age 66, of the Tellico Village Community, Loudon, TN, formerly of Indianapolis, IN and Chelsa, MI, passed away early Friday morning, July 27, 2001 in Knoxville, TN. Mary was born August 5, 1934 in Auburn, IN to Charles F. and Nira Knell Stone. She attended Indiana University and married Norman M. Brehob on August 5, 1956 in Vincennes, IN. Mary is a member of Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church in Loudon County, Tennessee. She served as National Defense Chairman of the Ann Arbor Chapter of the DAR. While serving as a loving wife, homemaker and stay-at-home mom, she managed an active and fulfilling life in spite of brittle diabetes which she developed at the age of 17. Her dedication to fighting the disease with knowledge and diet prompted her to accept an invitation to organize the Diabetic Support Group at the Chelsea Hospital in Chelsea, MI, in 1988. Mary was preceded in death by her father, a still born daughter, Nira Elizabeth, and brother-in-law, Robert C.
