| Williams, Bessie Mae Cross age 96 of Lenoir City passed away Friday, June 1, 2001 in Sweetwater. Bessie was the daughter of James and Zena Hall Skidmore. She attended the Baptist Church and was a former member of Paint Rock Baptist Church. Bessie was a former cook in many Lenoir City Restaurants. Preceded in death by husbands, Andy Williams and Clifford Cross; son, Junior Cross; daughter, Mrs. J. L. (Pauline) Ward; 5 brothers; 2 half-brothers. Survived by daughter, Mildred Colyer of Lenoir City; granddaughter with whom she made her home, Brenda Watson and husband, Freddy of Sweetwater; other grandchildren include, Diane White of Lenoir City, Donnie White of Loudon, Janie West and Shirley Johnson of Harriman, Steven Cross and Ray Cross of North Carolina, Tommy Cross of Loudon; 14 great grandchildren; 17 great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. | Robison, Jack Hinds - age 67 of Lenoir City, Tn., passed away Saturday morning, June 2, 2001 at his home. Jack was retired from CTI Inc. A member of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church and a veteran of The United States Navy. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ethyl Hinds Robison and father, Jack Edward Robison. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Sandra White Robison; daughters: Susan Robison Rojas, Sherry Robison Friedman and Tracy Robison all of Ft. Lauderdale, Fl. and Teresa Robison of Lenoir City; sons-in-laws, Jorge Rojas and Stuart Friedman; grandsons, Jake Matthew Rojas age 4 and Adam Laurence Friedman age 9. | Herron, James Leonard Jr.- age 82 of Lenoir City, passed away early Saturday morning, June 2, 2001 at the Loudon Health Care Center. Jim was born in Hartford, Al. on July 17, 1918 to Anna Mae and James L. Herron Sr. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1942, serving on the USS New Mexico as an Electricians Mate Third Class during WWII and received an honorable discharge in November 1945. He attended the University of Tennessee Knoxville where he received his BS in education in 1950 and his MS in 1954. He retired from the Lenoir City School System where he taught science and chemistry at Lenoir City High School for thirty-one years. He was the Director of the Lenoir City Boy's Club for forty one years and served on the United Way Board. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday School for many years. He belonged to the Amateur Ham Radio Club and enjoyed astronomy, star gazing and fishing. Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Herron and his parents. He is survived by his children: Martha Ann DeRossett and husband Mike of Dayton, Tn., Jimmy Herron, Susie McCloskey and husband Randy all of Lenoir City, Paula Stooksbury and husband Stan of Knoxville; brother, Leslie Herron and wife Georgia of Knoxville; grandchildren: Kathy Watson, Michael Herron, Audrey McCloskey, Megan McCloskey, Josh Swicegood and Cassie Swicegood. Brady, Richard L.
age 69 of Tellico Village Community, Loudon formerly of Danville, Ill. passed away Monday, June 4, 2001 at U. T. Medical Center after a battle with cancer. He was a member of the Catholic Church in Danville, Ill. Richard was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the U. S. Air Force. A member of Knights of Columbus and Catlin American Legion. He was Past Commodore of Danville Boat Club. He was retired from Hyster Company after a distinguished career of 44 years. After his retirement, Richard became affiliated with ERA Lakeside Realty until August, 2000. Preceded in death by parents, George and Helen Brady. Survived by wife of 44 years, Connie Brady; sons, Timothy R. Brady of Catlin, Ill. and Curtis W. Brady & wife, Teresa of Covington, Ind.; grandchildren, Nicole, Adam, Lindsey, Amanda, Jeremy, Josh and Jeremy; brother, Wayne Brady of Danville, Ill.; Sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mona and Clarence Brown of Danville, Ill.; several nieces and nephews. | Brown, George Mercer age 83 of Knoxville, TN, Chatham Twp, NJ, passed away Saturday morning June 9, 2001, in Knoxville after fighting a long, courageous battle with cancer. George was born on February 22, 1918, in Swissvale, PA to C. Roy Brown and Edith Mercer Brown who preceded him in death. He is sadly missed by his wife of 55 years, Florence Elizabeth Brown; daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy Ellen Brown and William R. (Bill) McCauley III of Knoxville, Janet Mercer Moore and Don Moore of Bristol, VA; only grandson, Matthew Allen McCauley; sisters, Shirley Rowley and Marjorie MacGregor both of Pittsburgh, PA. | Sternberg, Betty Jane age 75 of Farragut entered her heavenly home, early Saturday morning, June 9, 2001, at Ft. Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville, after a valiant battle against Hepatitis C. Betty had been a member of Second Presbyterian Church since 1977, and was involved for many years in delivering food for the Fish Food program. She worked on several Habitat homes with fellow church goers. Betty was a member of the Presbyterian Women's Association, and enjoyed the fellowship of the Church's Bridge group which she helped lead for a year. She also enjoyed the fellowship of the Church's Mariners group for many years. Betty loved the game of golf and belonged to Deane Hill and then Fox Den Country Clubs for many years until failing health kept her from playing as much as she would have liked. She also served as volunteer scorer in the Ben Hogan Tournaments for several years. Betty is survived by her husband Ed; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Pat Speller of Indianapolis, IN; step sons and wives, Michael and Jan Sternberg of Anacortes, WA, Steve and Lorrie Sternberg of Pocatello, ID, Paul and Liz Sternberg of Chesterfield, IN; step daughters, The Rev. Terrie Sternberg of Pulaski, VA, Margaret Smalley and husband Robert of Karns; 12 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren and her beloved canary, B J. | Rayfield, Emert age 84 of Knoxville passed away Monday morning, June 11, 2001, at the Baptist Health Care Center. Emert was a member of Chota Masonic Lodge. A longtime farmer. Emert also worked at the local teamster union. He owned school buses from 1946 to 1976. A veteran of the U. S. Army serving just before W. W. II in the Panama Canal. Emert was preceded in death by brothers, Ted, Charlie, George, Raymond, Hobart and Troy Rayfield; and sister, Grace Frye. Retired from UPS and after his retirement Dale worked for Express Courier in Alcoa, Tn. He was a member of Lenoir City Fraternal Order of Police and an avid fisherman. Lynsky, Dorothy J. age 77 of Knoxville, TN, formerly of Kalamazoo, MI, passed away Saturday, June 16, 2001 at Ft. Sanders Parkwest Medical Center. Dorothy was of the Catholic faith. | Dotson, Margie Goodman age 75 of Knoxville, TN, formerly of Sanford, NC , passed away Sunday evening June 17, 2001 at the home of her daughter. Margie was affectionately known by her grandchildren as Monnie. She was preceded in death by her husband Rev. Charles H. Dotson who pastored at the Wesleyan Methodist Church in Troy, NC, Sanford, NC, Blacksburg,VA and Washington, DC. Margie served faithfully with her husband in the churches as a pianist, Sunday school teacher, missionary society leader and other church activities. She later worked for the U S government in Washington as a secretary and also worked in the White House during her employment with the government. Margie was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Rhyne, Charlsie age 87 of Karns passed away Wednesday June 27, 2001, Charlsie was retired from Allied Chemical. Survivors: husband of 44 years, Charlie Rhyne; sons, Charles Shelton and wife Faye, Richard Shelton; daughters and sons-in-law, Sally and Fred Edsell , Grace and Ray Carter, Rosemary Fowler, Susie and Condon Wright all of Knoxville, Pauline and Charles Brown of Houston TX; 22 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 6-7:45 p.m. Friday with funeral services to follow at 8 p.m. in the Click Funeral Home Farragut Chapel with Rev. Ross Williford and Mr. John Kelly officiating. | Hines, Mary Ellen of Lenoir City passed away Thursday morning, June 28, 2001 at the Baptist Health Care Center. Mrs. Hines was born November 2, 1922 in Lenoir City and was a devoted, lifetime member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She was Valedictorian of the 1940 class of Lenoir City High School, attended Berea College, and in 1942 began a 44 year career with TVA during the final construction phase of Fort Loudon Dam. She cherished her TVA friends and after retirement maintained close ties with many of them. She was proud to be a Lenoir City resident all her life. She was an avid bridge player belonging to many clubs over the years; a member of the Thursday Sewing Club, and the Tuesday Club. The hardships of Depression and War helped to make her like many of this generation, an eternal optimist. This helped sustain her during a long fight with cancer, but it was the love she shared with family, the church, friends, club members, and neighbors that helped her the most. The family is deeply grateful for the support and care given her by so many people for so long. Mrs. Hines is preceded in death by her husband, Earl Harrison Hines; parents, Fred Martin Wilkerson and Anna Mae Fisher Wilkerson; brother and sister-in-law, Martin Fisher Wilkerson and Nelle Taylor Wilkerson; brother, Charles Frederick Wilkerson; sister, Emily Wilkerson Caldwell; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Fred Jones Smith and Kathleen Hines Smith. She is survived by her sons, James Harrison Hines and Walter Parker Hines both of Lenoir City; son-in-law and daughter, James Edward Chellew and Kathleen Hines Chellew of St. Louis, MO; son-in-law and daughter, Victor John Przysiezny and Cynthia Ellen Hines of Chicago, IL; grandchildren, Elizabeth Kathleen Chellew, Amanda Ellen Chellew, Benjamin Parker Chellew of St. Louis, and Emily Diane Hines of Chicago; brother and sister-in-law, James Allen Wilkerson and Ann Boyer Wilkerson of Rock Hill, S.C.; and first cousin, Betty Kate Wilkerson McCown of Lenoir City; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Hawkins Chapel. The body will lie in state from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at Trinity United Methodist Church. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. with Rev. Michael Gregory officiating. Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery. | Larmee, Walter T. age 83 of Farragut, passed away Friday evening, June 29, 2001, at Ft. Sanders Regional Medical Center. Walt was a member of Concord United Methodist Church and the Lord's Chapel. He was a graduate of the University of Louisville School of Pharmacy. Walt was retired from Eli Lilly and Co. after 34 years as a sales representative. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the Army in the Pacific Theater. Walt was a charter member of Fox Den County Club and an avid golfer. Survivors: wife of 47 years, Margery J. Larmee; son, Brad Larmee of Farragut; daughter, Lisa Larmee of Farragut; brother, John Larmee of Louisville KY; several nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Concord United Methodist Church with Rev. Shirley Delap, Rev. Bill Kilday and Rev. Beecher Dunsmore officiating. | McReynolds, Ollie Rhea- age 94 of Lenoir City, passed away Saturday evening, June 30, 2001, at the Baptist Health Care Center. Ollie Rhea was a devoted Christian always ready to praise her Jesus to her friends and loved ones. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Lenoir City for 53 years. Along with her husband, Howard, she sang duets at many local churches. She was an avid gardener. She was preceded in death by her parents, Will and Ida Harvey Mills; husband, Howard McReynolds; brothers: Robert, Homel and Bart Mills; sisters, Willie Hyde and Edna Bradley; son-in-law, Bobbie Fox. Ollie is survived by her daughter, Jonnie Fox of Lenoir City; son, Arnold McReynolds and wife Peggy of Vero Beach, Fl.; grandsons, Herbert and Samuel McReynolds; grandaughters: Susan Fulbright, Frances Cupp and Lea Ann Sparks; Seven great grandsons; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from6-7:45 p.m. Tuesday followed by funeral services at 8 p.m. in the Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Greg Harper officiating. Family and friends will gather by 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Click Funeral Home and proceed to the Woodlawn Baptist Church Cemetery for an 11 a.m. graveside service.
