Gibson, Austin R. age 78 of Knoxville, TN, formerly of Battle Creek, MI, passed away Sunday November, 18, 2001 in Knoxville. Austin was a retired carpenter. He was a member of the TN Carpenters Regional Association and Carpenters Local #871 in Battle Creek. Austin was a disabled veteran, serving with the army in World War II. Shoop, LaVon age 92 of Knoxville, TN formerly of Centralia, IL, passed away Sunday evening, November 25, 2001 at the Ft. Sanders Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Centralia. A retired registered nurse. A graduate of Decatur Macon Co. Hospital. She was a member of the Red Cross for over 50 years. Mrs. Shoop was a member of Chapter T, P. E. O. Sisterhood. She was on the board of directors of Kaskaskia Workshop. She was the Past Centralia Woman of the Year. Mrs. Shoop was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years. She was very active with the Girl Scouts. Preceded in death by her husband, Vernon W. Shoop; and grandson, Eric Shoop. Survived by daughter, Sue Brown and husband, Richard of the Tellico Village Community, Loudon, TN; son, Charles V. Peters, Judith G. (Poe)- age 58 of the Tellico Village Community, Loudon, Tn. passed away Monday, November 26, 2001 at the U. T. Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer. Judith was an Environmental Engineer for American National Can Company for 21 years. She retired in 1998 and moved to the Tellico Village Community. Carter, Francis Ewen, Jr. (Pete) passed away at the family home November 29, 2001. Mr. Carter was born January 27, 1912 in Baltimore, Maryland and moved to Tennessee in 1942 as a powerhouse superintendent with TVA for the construction of Fort Loudon Dam. He and his family lived in Lenoir City until 1960, then moved to Knoxville where he was in the heating and air conditioning business until his retirement. He was a charter member of Farragut Presbyterian Church and loved and supported it throughout his life. Mr. Carter was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 52 years, Frances Stewart Carter; mother and father, Elsie S. Carter and Francis E. Carter, Sr.; sisters, Elsie C. Fisher and Marguerite V. Carter; brother, Louis E. Carter. He is survived by brother, Robert C. Fisher and wife Helen of Yorba Linda, CA; by daughters, Elsie C. Testement and husband Tom of Knoxville, TN; Marguerite (Reet) Campbell and husband, Hop, of Pipe Creek, TX; Ann C. Welch of Knoxville, TN; Sandra A. Jefferies of Phoenix, AZ; sons Francis E. Carter, III and wife Penny of Knoxville, TN; F. Edward Carter and wife, Sally, of New Bedford, MA; Jon M. Carter and wife, Jenny, of Los Angeles, CA. "Pa Dudley" was loved and will be missed by all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. Carter was an avid outdoors man who loved hunting, camping, and hiking in all of the mountains of East Tennessee. He was a walking history and teachings of the region. Mr. Carter was a Boy Scout leader of Troop 46 at Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church for 27 years. During this time he had 47 scouts attain the rank of Eagle Scout. He was also the Chairman of the Eagle Court of Citizenship for 25 years. During his tenure, he examined and approved 280 scouts for the rank of Eagle Scout. He was also a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award. Mr. Carter always believed Boy Scouts helped shape good moral citizens. He taught and conducted Safe Gun and Safely classes for the Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency for 11 years. In Honor of his memory, Mr. Carter has requested that his Boy Scouts, Eagle Scouts and many friends contribute to the Memorial Fund, c/o Boy Scouts of America, P.O. Box 61885, Knoxville, TN 37950-1885. This fund will enable underprivileged boys to attend summer camp.
