Hair, James M. Jr. (Fuzz), Maj. U.S. Army Retired, age 80 of Lenoir City, passed away Monday, September 10, 2001, at his home. Jim attended the First Church of The Nazarene. A member of Avery Lodge #593 F&AM and was a 32nd degree Mason. He served in the U. S. Army retiring after 42 years with the rank of Major. Maj. Hair's service included W. W. II in Okinawa, the Korean War and in the Tn. National Guard, with which he helped organize locally the Tennessee Defense Force. He received the American Theater Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal and UN Service Medal. Maj. Hair was to receive the Korean Service Medal as issued by the Korean Government. After serving with the Army, Jim retired from the Lenoir City Postal Service. Vest, Kenneth Sigurd age 71 of Lenoir City,passed away Tuesday evening September 18, 2001. Sigurd was born in Guntersville Alabama and moved to Lenoir City at the age of 11. He married his childhood sweetheart, Florence Brookshear Vest and together they owned and operated several restaurants and Holiday Inns. Afterwards he worked at Click Funeral Home, owned a real estate agency with Jack Pickel and Howard Rogers, taught at the Loudon County Vocational School and managed Weigel's Stores until his retirement. After his retirement he worked at ADESA and loved to Flea Market. Sigurd was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He was a member of Avery Lodge #593 F&AM, a 32nd degree Mason and member of the Scottish Rite. Sigurd was preceded in death by his wife Florence Vest; parents, Tom Vest and Lena McGehee Vest. Smith, James F. Jr. age 60, of Lenoir City,TN, passed away suddenly Thursday September 20, 2001, at his home. Jim had lived in Prince George's Co., Maryland,until his retirement. He served in the Marine Corp. Reserve Max 24. He worked for the U. S. Park Police, in Washington, D.C., for 24 years as a Lieutenant Jim was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by parents, James F. Smith Sr. and Regina D. Smith. Jim is survived by his wife of 37 years, Kathleen K. Smith; children, Jennifer E. Sims, Rev. Ottis A. - age 66 of West Knoxville, passed away Saturday, September 22, 2001, at Ft. Sanders Regional Medical Center. Rev. Sims was a member of Paw Paw Plains Baptist Church in Lenoir City. He was a longtime Baptist Minister pastoring Hines Valley Baptist Church in Knoxville, Bell Avenue Baptist Church and Paw Paw Plains Baptist Church in Lenoir City. Rev. Sims owned and operated school buses in Knox Co. for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hobert A. and Rosia Presley Sims; brother, Jack Sims. Rev. Sims is survived by his wife of forty eight years, Charlene Hurst Sims; children: Mike Sims and wife Faye, Terry Tennant and husband, John all of Knoxville; grandsons: Justin Sims, Josh and Ben Tennant; brothers, W.J. Warner, Eva Ruth age 79 of West Knoxville, passed away Monday morning, September 24, 2001, at her residence. Eva was a member of Cokesbury United Methodist Church. She was a veteran of World War II serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theater with the U.S. Army in New Guinea and the Philippines. She was retired as a civilian employee with the Department of the Army. She was a retired teacher, business person, and a former director of a Head Start center. Maude was preceded in death by her husband, Dale R. Shubert, James A. (Rat) and Onnie L., husband and wife of Kingston, passed away within a few hours of each other after 54 years of marriage. Jim was retired from Midland Steel in Cleveland, OH. He was a veteran of W. W. II serving in the U. S. Army. Onnie was a homemaker, mother and grandmother. Ted was retired from Connecticut Transit Company in Stamford. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the Army in the 150th Combat Engineers in England, France and Germany.
