Obituary for Betty Lou Brown

Betty Lou Phelps Brown, born October 1, 1931, went to meet her Lord on April 7, 2017. She was preceded in death by her sweetheart and husband, Edward J. Brown. She is survived by her son, L. Benjamin “Benny” Brown and wife, Cynthia from Mechanicsville, Virginia; her daughter, Cynthia Brown Garren and husband, Johnny; beloved grandsons, Jesse and Jared Garren all of Lenoir City; niece, Betty Davis Jewell, and nephews, Jack and Eddie Davis all from Dallas, Texas.

She was a member of Carpenter’s Chapel Assembly of God and Sixth Avenue Church of God. Betty was a long time member of the Lenoir City Pilot Club where she served in many offices including President and National Convention Delegate.

She enjoyed many personal accomplishments in her life. Betty graduated from Lenoir City High School with honors and married her sweetheart, Ed, who was in the U. S. Navy. They were stationed on base in the Panama Canal Zone where she started working with the Department of Defense. After returning to the states, she began her treasured 41 year career working in Oak Ridge as a computer programmer with the Department of Energy, Nuclear Materials Management Safeguards and Systems. She and Ed owned and operated Brown Electric Service until his death in 1985. After retiring, she embarked on a life-long dream of getting a college degree and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Roane State Community State College. She sold real estate for a short time until Uncle Sam called for her services in 2001 after the 9/11 disaster.

She loved to travel first with Ed and then with cherished friends throughout America and abroad. Anyone that visited Betty at her home saw her love for gardening iris and her cherished photo albums from her travels. She’s now traveling the streets of gold, meeting her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and reunited with her love, her family and friends.
