Obituary for Ernest R. Varner

Ernest R. Varner age 87 of Lenoir City passed away 7:25 p.m. Monday evening, November 13, 2017. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving active duty with the 278th Company B Army National Guard. Ernest was a member of Sixth Avenue Church of God for many years. He retired from the Knoxville News Sentinel with 36 years of service and later from Kroger Co. He was preceded in death by his sons, James Ray Varner and Larry Varner; parents, Samuel H. and Mary Etta Varner; sister, Mamie Varner and brothers, Earl and David Varner. Survived by his wife of 60 years, Joyce Goins Varner; sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Ernie and Angeleea Varner, Kenny and Jill Varner; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Rev. David Snyder; grandchildren: Mitchell and Rachel Varner, Austin and Adam Varner, Art and Kendra Varner, Becca Ferguson, Krissy Bevil; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Christine Smith; brother, Sam Varner; many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 15th at Sixth Avenue Church of God in Lenoir City. Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. with Rev. David Snyder and Rev. Fred Cook officiating. Family and friends will gather at the funeral home by 11:15 on Thursday and proceed to Loudon Co. Memorial Gardens for 11:30 a.m. graveside services. Military honors will be conferred by the Loudon Co. Veterans Honor Guard. Click Funeral Home, 109 Walnut Street, Lenoir City is in charge of arrangements.
