Obituary for Evelyn McCown Rainwater

Evelyn McCown Rainwater, age 84 of Lenoir City passed away on May 22, 2018. Evelyn was a devoted Christian and an active member of First Baptist Church, Lenoir City where she was a Sunday School teacher, and was very active in the HUGS program, Front Door Visitation Program and was a Prayer Partner. Evelyn was a life-long resident of Lenoir City and a 1950 graduate of Lenoir City High School and a graduate of Tennessee Wesleyan College in Athens, TN. In 1955 she married her high school sweetheart Albert (Buddy) Rainwater.

She was employed at the K-25 Plant in Oak Ridge and the Athletic Department at the University of Texas in Austin before spending many years as a full-time mom and wife. She volunteered at many school and civic activities, including being a charter member of the Loudon County Health Improvement Council. She was the first coordinator of the State Department of Education’s Adult Literacy Program for Loudon County. She served as a teacher and coordinator of the program before retiring as the Adult Basic Education Supervisor for Lenoir City Schools. She also retired from McCown and Son Produce Company. In 2006, Evelyn was honored as First Lady of Loudon County.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Buddy; her parents Ralph and Mary McCown, brother Rev. Billy Joe McCown and sister Jean Shaver. She will be greatly missed by her children Susan Rainwater Snipes and husband Dan of Lenoir City and Michael Rainwater and wife Amy of Knoxville; grand-children Lindsey Armstrong and husband Paul, Lauren Lowpasser and husband Dakota, Kyle and Emily Rainwater; great-grandchildren Draydee-Lyn, Jakob and Joshuah Armstrong and Isebelle, Margarette and Carolyne Lowpasser; sister Betty Cook and sisters-in law: Barbara McCown Bright and husband Alan, Alda Daniel and Betty Jo Stevens; many nieces, nephews, cousins and long-time friends.

The family will receive friends on Friday, May 25, 2018 from 5 - 7 p.m. at Click Funeral Home in Lenoir City. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 26 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church. Graveside services will follow at Lakeview Cemetery
