Obituary for Paul Francis Birsa

Paul Francis Birsa, age 81 of Tellico Village Community, Loudon, Tennessee, passed away on October 27, 2017. Paul was born September 30, 1936 in Joliet, Illinois to Frank and Clara Birsa. Paul married his childhood sweetheart, Arlene Leslie, in June of 1960. She survives him, as well as daughters, Andrea Bierwirth (Richard Wardrop), Kristine (John) Palmer, and Jill Ostby. Grandchildren include Trevor and Nicholas Bierwirth, Jack, Julia and Samuel Palmer, Rachel Marcotte and Jacob Ostby. He is also survived by his sister, Joan Traven, and many nieces and nephews.

Paul attended St. Bede Academy in Peru, Illinois and later earned his BA at Lewis University in Lockport, Illinois where he was also a professor in Aviation Mechanics. He served in the Army and was stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas as a mechanic in the 1st Infantry Division. He later used his mechanical skills with a 30 year career at General Motors Truck and Bus. After retirement, Paul became active as a member in the GM Club of Tellico Village and the Polish Heritage Club. Paul also enjoyed tennis, golf, biking, hiking and wood working, as well as cheering on the Michigan State Spartans and spending time with his family.

Paul’s family will receive friends at St. Thomas the Apostle Church on Thursday, November 2 from 10 – 11 a.m. with the Mass to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation, 200 SE 1st Street, Suite 800, Miami, FL 33131, www.parkinson.org.
