Obituary for Paul Henry Smith

Paul Henry Smith was born February 24, 1933 in Atwood, Indiana to parents Rev. Paul and Margaret Jean Smith. He went to his eternal home on November 16, 2017. Parents are now deceased. In the family Paul had two brothers, Harold Don Smith (Nona), Charles Edwin Smith (Joy Ann), and a sister, Sara Ann Smith Critser (Bruce).

Paul graduated from high school in Columbus, Wisconsin and went on to Wisconsin State University in Whitewater, Wisconsin with a major in Business Administration/Marketing. Within a few years he married Mary Jo Edwards, and they were parents to Paul Terry Smith (Linda Greene), Cynthia Robbins (Don), an Debby Edgar (Larry).

Paul’s boyhood focus was with the Boy Scouts of America as his father was his pastor and his Scoutmaster. Dad and the Smith sons all attained the rank of Eagle Scout as well as Anthony, one of the grandsons. So it was a natural thing to be interested in a career with BSA. He began his Scouting careen in Wisconsin where he was a District Executive. After various assignments in Illinois and Indiana, he became part of the national staff in Irving, Texas where his specialty was Fiscal management and the training of council bookkeepers all around the country, as a career which spanned 38 years.

It was during this time that Paul looked up Marian, who was also single at the time. Many phone calls and some weekend visits found Paul and Marian enjoying time together. They married in May 1992 and have enjoyed a wonderful life in their big families together. Paul retired in 1996 and Marian retired from elementary teaching. Deciding to live in Tellico Village was a good decision, moving there in 1998. Paul has been very active in Kiwanis, TBART, boating and church work at The Community Church at Tellico Village. The Friendship Kitchen delivery team and the bus ministry were things Paul enjoyed.

The Parkinson’s Support Group has been a wonderful help as the disease is something difficult to live with over the years. Paul and Bob Warner became friends in this group, and for several years Paul and Bob went to the Wellness Center together to get some exercise.

The family is ever grateful to the staff of Caris Hospice and the staff at Prosperity Point Assisted living for their loving care of Paul.

A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, November 26, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at The Community Church at Tellico Village. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Community Church at Tellico Village.
