Obituary for Sonja Winkler

Sonja H. Winkler age 82 of the Tellico Village Community, Loudon, TN passed away May 1, 2017. She was born July 30, 1934 in Kansas City, Kansas.

She was an active member of the Community Church at Tellico Village since 1994 when she moved to Tellico Village from Chicago, IL.

Sonja was a friendly person who liked to socialize with and help others. She loved to square dance. She and her husband danced for 25 years and were former members of the Little T’s Square Dance Club. Sonja served many years with the Good Samaritan Center and the Good Neighbor Shoppe. She also was a member of the choir at the Community Church at Tellico Village. After she learned to play bridge, she helped form a bridge club with 8 members. She enjoyed traveling with the Tellico Roadrunner RV Club. She also helped form our Chatuga Cove annual family get together.

Preceded in death by her parents, Gertrude and Harry Ginsburg; sister Renee Borden and brother Jay Ginsburg.

Survivors include her husband, Richard M. Winkler; sons Tom Gillespie and Richard Gillespie of Chicago, IL and Ken Gillespie of Brooklet, GA, Richard Winkler of A
Olmsted Falls, OH; daughters Mary Wolande, Lisa Baker of Chicago IL, Diane Poland of Lakewood Ranch, FL, Randi Winkler of Columbia, MO and Judy Cooper of Columbus, OH; 28 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren and numerous relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 5, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at The Community Church at Tellico Village in the Founders Chapel. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimers of East Tennessee or The Community Church at Tellico Village.
