Obituary for Becky Kester

Becky Chappell Kester slipped the bonds of this earth and ascended to heaven on Sunday, December 2, 2018.

Becky was born to Chap and Frances Toomer on March 28, 1960, in Oak Ridge, TN. After graduating from Oak Ridge High School, Becky earned a BBA from the University of Cincinnati and moved to New Orleans where she worked for Ernst and Whinney. While in New Orleans, she earned an MBA from the University of New Orleans, as well as CPA and CPC (Certified Pension Consultant) certifications. More importantly in New Orleans, she met and married the love of her life, Mark. Becky and Mark moved to Texas, then settled in Upper Saddle River, NJ.

In New Jersey, Becky became a vice president for Summit Bank, then chose to devote herself to family by becoming a “stay at home” mom to her children, Ashley and Cody. She also pursued her lifetime love of music and helping others. She became the central pianist/organist at Bergen Highlands United Methodist Church and was a Girl Scout Troop Leader. When Cody entered West Point, she became a supportive West Point Mom to the Cadets and an avid West Point Football fan.

In 2014, Becky and Mark “retired” to Tellico Village (TV) where she deepened her commitment to music, shelter animals, and other volunteering. She was member of the Community Church at TV. Becky was a member of the handbell choir of the Church, the piano accompanist to the TV Singers and Tellico Voices, board member, treasurer and dancer for the Footloose Dancers of Tellico. Additionally, she volunteered with the Loudon County Animal Shelter at their Petsmart facility in Turkey Creek.

Becky is survived by her husband of 32 years, Mark, son, Capt. Cody Kester, daughter, Ashley Kester, sister, Marti Turner (Nelson), and father, Lamar “Chap” Toomer (Emily).

A Celebration of Becky’s Life will be held on Friday, December 14th at 11 AM in the Community Church at Tellico Village. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

In honor of her lifelong passion of volunteering, in lieu of flowers, please send donations to Loudon County Animal Shelter 250 Jamie Dr., Loudon, TN 37774.
