Obituary for Emmerson Lee Arnold

Emmerson Lee Arnold, 88, formerly of Lenoir City, passed away on September 30,2018 at Brookdale Champions Memory Care in Houston, Texas. He was born to the late Clarence and Willie May Arnold in Attalla, Alabama on Christmas Day, 1929, just months after the Great Depression began. Emmerson graduated from Etowah High School in 1948, where he played center for the undefeated 1947 team and the 1 loss 1948 team. This is also where he met his future wife of 70 years, Doris Bradley. He and his wife would eventually move to Knoxville, TN, and then Oak Ridge, TN. In 1953, he was hired as an Operator Trainee at the K-25 plant in Oak Ridge. Shortly thereafter, he attended night school at UT, receiving his Bachelor's degree in Industrial Management. He then worked in the Project Engineering Department until his retirement in 1993. Emmerson enjoyed sports, (he was a huge VOLS fan!) especially football and hunting. He would help coach in the pee wee leagues during the late 60's, and enjoyed trips to South Dakota to go pheasant hunting with his Brittany Spaniels, family, and friends. He would eventually enjoy serving his church, becoming a deacon at First Baptist Church in Lenoir City, where he made numerous, lifelong friends. Emmerson is survived by his lovely wife, Doris Arnold; daughter Sherry Venable; sons Lee and Steve; sisters Juanita Smith of Stillwater, Oklahoma and Peggy Cole of Southside, Alabama; four grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. His humor, his kindness, and his presence, will be greatly missed. A memorial service for Emmerson will be held on November 3rd at Click Funeral Home in Lenoir City, receiving friends from 1-2pm, and memorial service 2-3pm, with burial following. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make a small donation in Emmerson's name to his favorite charity, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Click Funeral Home, 109 Walnut Street, Lenoir City is in charge of arrangements.
