Obituary for Frances J. Basso

Frances J. Basso age 79 of Shelter Cove, CA passed away peacefully after a rich and enjoyable life on Monday, February 25, 2019. Fran fought courageously with multiple metastasized cancers and was comforted knowing she would be reuniting with her husband, parents, and family who preceded her in death. Fran was a spirited woman who held many honors and positions in her life, including Salutatorian of her graduating class at Wanatah HS, Treasurer of the NorCal Women’s Camp, Docent at Shelter Cove Lighthouse, and one of the early airline hostesses to earn her wings for Capital Airlines based in Chicago. She enjoyed her experiences and lifestyle working with the early airlines, and during that time she lived in different locations but would later reside in Riverside, CA to start her family in the early 1970's. Fran married Frank Basso and they together raised two children, Gabriel and Amy, while running Nova Construction, a small construction business out of the home. Fran also promoted herself outside the home and throughout her career history from airline hostess to travel agent, to school secretary, to completing her BA at the age of 56, to completing her teaching credential at the age of 58 and joyfully teaching young elementary students until she retired at the age of 65 to reside in Shelter Cove with her husband. Fran was quickly embraced by the local community in Shelter Cove who cherished her gracious kindness and sense of humor. She and her husband enjoyed their new lifestyle living in the coastal wilderness, spending time with friends and family, eating crab on the deck and participating in numerous local charities and community events with the Shelter Cove Pioneers. Fran was the light of the room she was in and as was loved by her family, friends and the community for her warmth, generosity and kindness. Their home was a welcome place for friends, family, neighbors and employees where they would often host backyard bar-b-cue gatherings by the pool and often set a few extra seats at the table during the holidays. Fran was proud to be able to join her daughter’s family in Lenoir City, TN to be surrounded with peace, comfort and love through her last months. Fran is survived by her son Gabriel and his wife Esther, her daughter Amy and her husband Chris and their son, Fran’s only grandson, Luciano.
