Obituary for Pauline Smith

Pauline Smith of Greenback, TN passed away after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease on May 26, 2018. She was born in Korea during Japanese colonial rule. As a young teen, she worked with missionaries in northern Korea translating hymns and singing the good news of Jesus Christ to thousands of people. After escaping from the north with her mother during the Korean War, she studied at the University of Seoul and received a bachelor's degree in law. She immigrated to the US and met Phil Smith, the love of her life, at Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC. After completing a master's degree in Christian Education, she continued her music ministry singing in churches throughout the Greenville area.

On June 5, 1964, Pauline married Phil Smith of Knoxville where they lived for the next 30 years raising their family until they retired to Greenback. She taught at Draughon's Junior College for 25 years where she inspired thousands of students and made many dear friends. During those years she enjoyed singing in the choir at Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church. In 1992, Pauline became the CAD systems manager of E911 Knox County Emergency Management Agency where she worked for 10 years before retiring to enjoy her grandchildren.

Pauline will always be remembered by her family for her caring spirit, witty words, and heart full of love, but more than anything, she was a woman of God. She leaves behind her husband of nearly 54 years Phil Smith, daughter Tina Weston and her husband Brian, daughter Rachel Lyle, brother-in-law Lloyd Smith & his wife Kathy, grandchildren Hannah & Josh Lyle, and Jacob & Jonah Weston, nieces and nephews Matt & Melody Smith, Phil & Allison Smith, Beth & Tobi Kley, Andy & Michelle Smith, and dear friend Lewis Jones of Columbia, SC.

The family would like to thank Mark and Tina D'Alessandro, and Deedra Blevins for the compassionate care and comfort they provided to Pauline during her last months.

"Well done, good and faithful servant...Come and share your master's happiness!" Matthew 25:21

Memorial gifts may be made to Alzheimer's Tennessee, Inc. East TN Office, 5801 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN 37919
